HOW TO STRETCH A PAINT BY NUMBERS CANVAS

HOW TO FRAME A PAINT BY NUMBERS CANVAS?

Framing a canvas, better known as stretching the canvas, can be an expensive and exhausting process if you do it professionally. And while it's more valuable to treat anything other than extreme care for some paintings, you can easily stretch and frame your own paint by numbers canvas across the home pieces on the canvas using Wooden Frames. We also sell the frame together with painting sets.

Paintings, traditionally don't come with a canvas frame, and it can be confusing to find the right dimensions for a frame to buy or make. Fortunately, it won't be a problem for you if you buy one of our paint by numbers kit with an additional frame in the right size. Just pull on the Canvas and you're ready to go.

In this blog, we will discuss how to stretch the paint with numbers canvas the right way. It's a simple process that not only takes the time equivalent of painting a quarter of an image, but also jumps up the presentation.

The first thing you need to do is think about when you should frame the canvas before or after painting. Although it is a good idea to frame the canvas before painting, it is best to do so after the paint is completely dry.

So let's discuss the materials. You will receive four wooden tension rods and tacks to secure the canvas behind the frame. But we recommend that you should use a staple gun for large canvas to ensure stiffness and even stretching of the canvas.

Now that you know what you need before you stretch the canvas, let's move on to the real work.

STRETCHING THE PAINT BY NUMBERS CANVAS PRE - PAINTIG

1 If you decide to frame the canvas before painting, you should start by spreading the canvas (Front face down) on a covered flat surface.

Attach the stretcher beams correctly to form the frame.

3 Place the frame on top of the canvas, front down.

4 Make sure that the edges of the frame match the grain size of the paint by numbers canvas, otherwise the canvas will continue to move even after stitching. Also, make sure that there is about 1½ ”of material left on each side of the frame, otherwise your fabric may not be as tight as you would like.

5 Once you have resized the canvas and placed the walnut frame, place it on the higher side of the frame (and canvas) in front of you. Stretch the canvas as much as you can (but make sure you stick to the nut!) And fold it over the frame.

6 Once evenly folded, attach the canvas to the frame with thumbtacks or a stapling gun. At this stage, attach only half of the canvas and leave the sides alone.

7 Move to the opposite side of the frame and this time stretch the canvas as far as you can without damaging the canvas print. Fill it over the frame in the same way and reattach the center of the canvas to the frame.

8 Return to one of the small sides and stretch and fold in the same way. Fill the corners of the canvas so that one corner is below the other, making sure the line is even, and fold the corners as well.

9 Turn it over and touch the front to see if your paint with numbers canvas is nice and tight.

10 Add some pushpins as needed.

11 Place the thumbtacks in place to make sure they are tight.

12 Cut off excess canvas that does not look good and may damage the appearance of the painting with numbers canvas.

13 This feature is completely optional, but can add a bigger twist to your paintings. Apply Gesso (or any primer you want) to the canvas to make it even stronger and tighten. Trust us, you will feel the difference.

14 A voila! Your canvas is framed and ready to paint on. No one will know the difference between a pre-stretched canvas  and yours if you do it right.

You can now start painting by numbers on the framed canvas accordingly. Here's how to get started with numbers and don't forget the tips. We have a very good 19 tips for painting by number.

Remember: Do not spray water on the canvas as this could damage the printed numbers on the Paint by numbers canvas.

STRETCHING THE CANVAS AFTER PAINTING

If for some reason you didn't stretch your canvas before painting, don't worry, it's still possible. However, if you have trimmed the excess canvas after painting, you can sacrifice the outer edge of the paint at the corners of the frame.

Stretching the canvas after painting is the same process, with little difference to keep your painting completely dry. If you are sure of this, follow the steps above and you will have an exploded painting canvas ready to hang on in your bedroom, living room, office or anywhere you like.

ATTACHING THE HOOKS TO THE FRAME

Framed painting by numbers

When you're done painting and framing your pint by numbers canvas, it's time to hang the masterpiece in a place where you can admire it, and it's often appreciated by others. We supply hanging hooks and screws in all our paint by numbers kits, so it is enough to use the same large screwdriver to screw the hooks to the frame.

Screw the hooks a few inches from the corners and make sure there is the same distance between them. Screw them on so that they are no longer visible when the picture is hanging.

Once you have firmly inserted the hooks, all you have to do is find the right house for your painting.

Good luck with your OWN DIY stretching canvas. Tell us how it is and send us photos of your work at ----.
